about

Track 9 begins with the distant voices of the bobé in an offkey rendition of the song they want the women to sing next (one of several then in vogue). The song begins gradually as the women wait for the main drummer, a teenage boy named Mamadu, to return to the drums. The song builds
momentum and leads irresistably to an emotional and musical climax as the bobé suddenly arrive to participate, crouching in front of the women and slapping the earth hard in the bobé version of percussion. Their energy is so frenetic, however, that they can scarcely contain it, and keep rushing and whirling about before pausing again briefly for more earth percussion.
